The sounds of protest will fill the air in both Fredericksburg and King George County this coming weekend.

On March 28, the latest edition of the No Kings rallies will take place at the corner of William Street and Blue and Grey Parkway. This is the latest in the series of coordinated rallies which took off across the United States and the international community in 2025. In all, millions of people have attended 3,000 concurrent protests have come to publicly air grievances regarding the policies and actions of the Trump Administration.

The rally will be held as a joint event between the Democratic committees of Fredericksburg and their counterparts in Stafford, Spotsylvania and Caroline counties. According to Fredericksburg Democratic Committee Chairman Ken Lecky, these committees are also working with other grassroots groups.

Previous protests have been held at 11 a.m.  but Saturday’s No Kings rally has been moved to 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. This is due to a No Gerrymandering protest held by the University of Mary Washington College Republicans and the Fredericksburg Area Young Republicans scheduled on the same corner from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Attempts to contact the organizations hosting the “No Gerrymandering” event by email and phone were unsuccessful.

Lecky and the Fredericksburg Dems expect a larger crowd of participants than what they had last year and are recommending that people carpool to the protest.

“We hope that anyone who opposes the Trump administration’s violence, corruption, and disregard for human dignity will join us and the millions of people across the country in sending a message to the world that we will stand up for our values and our neighbors,” he said.

On the same day, the King George Democratic Committee will also hold its own No Kings rally at the old Courthouse along Kings Highway from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The committee had held a previous demonstration there in October 2025. This will be the fourth such event that has been held in King George since the beginning of Trump’s second term.

According to the committee’s chairman, Jim Hamre, a larger turnout is expected for the rally, which has grown over time. The chairman said there were 24 people at the first rally, 60 at the second and 150 at the most recent. The King George Dems have also worked alongside the Westmoreland County Democratic Committee to expand interest in the region.

Hamre has lauded the innovation of people participating in the protests which have included individualized signs and noise makers. A group which he referred to as the Singing Resistance Chorus will also lead chants during the event.

“The Trump regime continues to vigorously attack democracy in the U.S. in ways and frequency that are hard to comprehend and keep up with,” said Hamre. “This No Kings Rally is important in the life of the King George community to demonstrate that there is resistance, that there is a community of like-minded people in the county, that there are standards for conduct and that the government exists for the people, not as a get-richer scheme for the political and industrial elite.”

Hamre advised participants to bring sunscreen and/or hat and to consider bringing a folding chair. Water will be provided but Hamre said that protestors could also bring their own drinks. No weapons will be allowed.

“When our families are under attack and costs are pushing people to the brink, silence is not an option,” Hamre said of the goal for the demonstration. “We will defend ourselves and our communities against this administration’s unjust and cruel acts of violence. America does not belong to strongmen, greedy billionaires, or those who rule through fear. It belongs to us, the people.”
