Overnight lane closures scheduled for northbound I-95 near Exit 126

by | Apr 13, 2026 | ALLFFP, Spotsylvania, Traffic, Transportation

Interstate 95 northbound travelers should expect delays overnight near Exit 126 (Spotsylvania) in the Fredericksburg area this week, with varying single- and double-lane closures scheduled between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Monday-Thursday.

Construction is underway to improve the interchange at Exit 126. This week, crews will be shifting the northbound travel lanes slightly to the left. This will provide space to build a new northbound auxiliary lane from the on-ramp to the vicinity of the Route 208 (Courthouse Road) overpass. This lane will help motorists entering I-95 accelerate and safely merge into traffic.

The $42 million project to improve the exit 126 interchange will also:

  • Widen Route 1 near the interchange area to three lanes in each direction, and add a second left-turn lane onto I-95 northbound and southbound.
  • Widen the I-95 on-ramps at the intersection.
  • Build two noise barriers along southbound I-95.

Construction should be complete in September 2027.
