According to the sheriff’s office, scammers are using social media platforms, especially TikTok, to advertise homes for rent that are either not available or are actually listed for sale. Victims are often asked to send application fees, security deposits, or advance rent payments before ever seeing the property.
The Caroline Sheriff’s Office says verify listings, confirm ownership through trusted sources, and avoid sending money or personal information until the property and landlord have been independently verified.
