VDOT says starting, Monday–July 8–motorists can expect single lane closures and one-way alternating traffic on River Road in Spotsylvania for shoulder widening and tree trimming work.
VDOT’s Alexis Breeden says shoulder widening work will occur between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Monday, July 8 through Friday, July 12, weather permitting. Widening work will begin at the Motts Run boat launch and end at Belle River Drive.
She says widening the shoulders of River Road by 1-2 feet on each side will provide more recovery space for drivers if their vehicle strays from the travel lanes. The project is intended to reduce the risk of crashes and injuries that can result from vehicles running off the road.
Breeden says tree trimming work will also occur between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. starting Monday, July 8, weather permitting. Tree trimming work will begin at Spotswood Furnace Road and end at Route 3. This work will occur on various sections of River Road over the next several weeks during July, improving safety and sight distance for travelers.
