- An Italian restaurant with a four-season dining addition is planned at the former location of the Fredericksburg Visitor Center downtown.
- Chalk N More, an educational-supply store in Fredericksburg’s Central Park shopping center, will close July 19. A closeout sale is under way.
- The former Hardee’s building at 567 Warrenton Road in Stafford County is getting torn down, and a Sheetz store and fueling station will replace it.
- The business formerly known as Wm Mason Violin Shop at 509 Jackson St. in Fredericksburg is now called Fredericksburg Violins. Ownership changed, but the business model (instrument rentals and more) stayed mostly the same.
- Tales & Tails is holding its grand opening Saturday at 1010 Charles St. in Downtown Fredericksburg. It’s an independent bookstore that combines a love of books, dogs and coffee into one space.
- The First Watch location at 10101 Patriot Highway in the Cosner’s Corner area of Spotsylvania is expected to open Monday. The popular brunch restaurant is also planning a location at 1160 Carl D. Silver Parkway in Fredericksburg’s Central Park shopping center (that opening is expected in late June).

A second area location for Happy Michoacana has opened at 1075 Gateway Blvd. in Fredericksburg (stand-alone kiosk behind Cowboy Jack’s). The other location is at 11146 Patriot Highway in Spotsylvania. The business offers artisan popsicles, ice cream, snacks and more.
- Tricord Homes is proposing a mixed-use development on about 115 acres just north of Fredericksburg Christian School off Thornton Rolling Road in Spotsylvania. The requested rezoning for the Village at Crossroads Station project calls for a mix of residential types including single-family houses, townhouses and condominiums up to 670 units. Access would be from Crossroads Parkway and Thornton Rolling Road. The plan calls for about 3 acres of commercial development along Crossroads Parkway. A number of transportation improvements to Crossroads Parkway/U.S. 17, Thornton Rolling Road, Massaponax Church Road and Cosner Drive are proposed.
- The Panera Bread at 5904 Plank Road near the Publix grocery store in Spotsylvania is scheduled to open Wednesday (May 21). This will be the fifth local Panera cafe.
