The school board will present a plan for modular classrooms to ease overcrowding. At the most recent school board meeting, the plan that was discussed included adding “learning cottages” or trailers to Bowling Green Elementary and Lewis and Clark Elementary with a plan to construct a new elementary school within four years.

In addition to a discussion with the school board about overcrowding at two elementary schools, the supervisors have a full slate of items to consider, including public hearings on the FY26 budget. There will also be a public hearing on an amendment to the county’s comprehensive plan to incorporate the Small Area Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan for the Ladysmith area. The amendment was drafted by the George Washington Regional Commission and provides bicycle and pedestrian accommodations along U.S. Route 1 from the Campbell’s Creek subdivision south to the Lake Caroline subdivision and along Ladysmith Road from the Lake Land’Or subdivision across Route 1 to Madison Elementary School. The plan also provides connectivity to the Ladysmith Village, Pendleton and Bridlewood subdivisions and Ladysmith Industrial Park.

Fredericksburg

City Council work session/regular meeting, Tuesday, 5:30/7:30 p.m.

With budget season (mostly) in the rear view, city council will hear an update about its wastewater treatment plant expansion, which city manager Tim Baroody has described as “the biggest project in the city’s history… The body will also vote on entering into a $1.7 million design services contract for the city’s third fire station, which is being built in the Bragg Hill neighborhood, off Fall Hill Avenue.

Planning Commission supplementary meeting, Wednesday, 6:30 p.m.

  • Fredericksburg Forward! Comprehensive Plan Update

A scheduled public hearing regarding 1500 Gateway (otherwise known as the “Hylton tract”) was delayed at the request of the applicant. The hearing concerned rezoning and a special use permit for a data center in the area, which is located outside of the city’s recently-established Technology Overlay District.

There are no shortage of concerns for King George residents to discuss with the board of supervisors. The board is pondering downzoning, weighing data centers and solar farms and is facing multiple in legal issues. Spotsylvania County

Board of supervisors meeting, Tuesday, 5 p.m. 

  • Public hearing on code amendments related to utility rates and fees
  • Public hearing on Laying Hens ordinance
  • Vote on Smith Station Crossing

On April 22, the board of supervisors held a public hearing on Smith Station Crossing — a proposed 99-home subdivision on the north side of Smith Station Road — and continued the vote to the May 27 meeting to allow the applicant to revise the proffers to address transportation concerns. The applicant made changes to the proffer statement, including committing to prohibiting large truck construction deliveries outside 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; increasing the maximum transportation improvement cost amount from $1 million to $1.1 million; committing to lengthening the existing dedicated left turn lane from eastbound Courthouse Road onto northbound Smith Station Road by 200 feet; and committing to complete the transportation improvements prior to the 40th home instead of the 60th as originally proposed. Staff recommends approval of the project and the planning commission did the same by a 4-3 vote.

Stafford County

Board of Supervisors meeting, Tuesday, 5 p.m.

The supervisors are scheduled to discuss a preferred route for a new road and bridge crossing the Rappahannock west of Interstate 95. They also will talk about new state laws and what they want to see done in next year’s General Assembly session.

School Board meeting, Wednesday, 1 p.m

The School Board will meet with the county’s delegates and state senators at the Rodney Thompson Middle School library for a conversation about work taking place at the state level. This is envisioned as an opportunity for members to get a debriefing on this year’s legislative session and begin to look ahead to next year’s session.

  • Forming a data center subcommittee
