Pick a pooch: Stafford County asks for public’s help in naming new dog park

A new dog park is nearly complete in the Rock Hill District, and Stafford County is inviting the public to vote online to help name the facility.

Members of the public can cast a vote for one of five former Stafford K-9 officers until July 16. The dogs all served the county, assisting the Sheriff’s Office in apprehending suspects and checking for explosives.

“I am so excited to FINALLY get to open and offer this wonderful amenity in my district; this project completion only begins the start of more to come and is Rock Hill’s first park,” Rock Hill Supervisor Crystal Vanuch said in a press release. “Our working animals are often the unsung heroes in very dangerous and sensitive situations. Naming the park after one of these courageous dogs will help memorialize them all.”

Residents may visit the Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department website for more information, or go directly to cast a vote for one of the five former K-9 officers. The county government asks that you vote only once and for only one dog during the voting period.

An exact date for a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new park has not been announced, but it is scheduled for sometime next month. The winning dog’s name will be announced and displayed at the ceremony.
