With election day just 100 days away (we’ll forgive you for not celebrating), we want to give you a roadmap for what to expect in terms of local coverage from the Free Press.
- Between now and Nov. 4, we’ll report on every contested board of supervisors, city council and school board race in our coverage area. You may have already seen some of these stories on our site.
- We’ve planned a series of questionnaires for those seeking statewide office, with input from you (more on that very soon)
- And, finally, the Free Press will hold a series of local candidate forums in September. These moderated forums will allow you to assess and contrast the candidates on your ballot, without distracting cross talk. We’ll have more information on these in the coming days and weeks.
Yours in civic awareness,

School board work session, Monday, 5:30 p.m.
- Second reading of policy permitting student representative to school board
- Second reading of policy regarding public/third party complaints
- Second reading of approval of policy on progressive discipline
Get the memo
The school board will review three policies that were previously approved on first reading, including one regarding the establishment of a student school board representative. The board voted 4-1 earlier this month to approve the policy on first reading. Carol Medawar of the Courtland District provided the lone dissenting vote, citing uneasiness about exposing a student to the board’s oftentimes contentious nature.
