Measles exposure reported at Dulles; VDH urges travelers to check vaccination status

by | Aug 20, 2025 | Health care, Region, Ted Schubel

A confirmed case of measles traveled through Dulles on Tuesday, August 12, potentially exposing travelers between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. in the main terminal, TSA security checkpoint, Concourse B, and the terminal train.

The Virginia Department of Health urges anyone who was in those areas during that time to check their vaccination status and watch for symptoms for 21 days.

Those fully vaccinated or born before 1957 are considered protected and do not need to take action. People who are unvaccinated or immunocompromised should contact their healthcare provider promptly.

The health department says measles is highly contagious but preventable with two doses of the MMR vaccine. Virginia has reported three measles cases so far in 2025.
