Old Dominion Humane Society rescues dozens of neglected dogs from southwest Virginia

Last week, Old Dominion Humane Society (ODHS) agreed to rescue dogs from a neglect case in southwestern Virginia. Found malnourished and terrified, the dogs had been left without food, water, or human interaction. Some were even too weak to even stand.

“ODHS is at capacity right now, but we couldn’t look away from these dogs that are in desperate need of help,” said Chrissy Hamilton, ODHS founder. “They’ve endured so much pain—they deserve healing and hope.”

A press release says ODHS volunteers transported 40% of the dogs to their Fredericksburg facility. Severely ill, many with advanced mange, the dogs are now receiving medical care, warm meals (including a welcome feast of Buc-ee’s brisket!), and the compassion they’ve never known. Some went straight into foster homes to begin healing, while others remain at ODHS under volunteer care.

ODHS leadership says they now need the community’s help thru
monetary donations, fosters, and sharing the dogs’ stories. They say these dogs face a long road to recovery.
