The Free Lance–Star, the Fredericksburg region’s long-standing daily newspaper, will publish a print edition just six days a week — on Tuesdays through Sundays — starting Nov. 3.
In a statement posted to the newspaper’s website, managing editor Jake Womer wrote that the change reflects changing reader habits.
“We work hard to bring you news, sports and features content when and where you want it, and we’re constantly evaluating the best ways to do that,” Womer wrote. “We know that as reader habits change, we must adapt to meet their needs.”
While there will no longer be a Monday print edition, the FLS will still produce an E-edition — a digital copy of its newspaper.
“Our commitment to delivering the news has not changed,” Womer wrote. “Reporters and photographers will still produce crucial community content every day, and we will alert you to breaking news as soon as it develops. You’ll continue to find coverage about Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania and surrounding areas, as well as reporting from throughout the commonwealth.”
Since 2020, The Free Lance–Star has been owned by Lee Enterprises, an Iowa-based company that owns hundreds of publications in 26 states. Lee took over management of the FLS and several other Virginia newspapers back in 2018.
