It’s only fitting that the Caroline High School football team improved to 6-0 for the first time in school history with a 6-0 victory.
That was the final score in a defensive slugfest Friday night at home against Battlefield District foe Eastern View.
The Cavaliers (6-0, 3-0 Battlefield) scored on a 36-yard touchdown pass from Blake Morris to Blair Morris with 2:51remaining in the first quarter and the score stood for the rest of the game.
Blair Morris finished with six catches for 106 yards to lead Caroline offensively. The Cavaliers’ defense withstood several challenges from the Cyclones (1-5, 0-3), who were paced by 153 total yards from quarterback Tyler Caperton.
Eastern View had first-and-goal from the Caroline 8-yard-line in the fourth quarter when the Cavaliers’ defense stuffed fullback Hayden Loveless and forced a fumble that the Cyclones recovered for a 9-yard loss.
Three plays later, Caperton broke free from a sack attempt and made a desperation heave to the end zone that was broken up by Blake Morris from his safety position.
The Cavaliers ran out the final 3:27, as running back Trason Fletcher picked up one first down and backfield mate Tre Coles gained five yards on fourth-and-2 from the Caroline 39 to seal the victory.
Caroline is back in action next Friday at Spotsylvania. Eastern View hosts Courtland the same night.
