An RV explosion Tuesday afternoon in the 12200 block of Dell Way in Spotsylvania County left one man with serious, life-threatening injuries, Deputy Fire Chief Steve Cooper said.

Spotsylvania Fire and Rescue was notified at 12:52 p.m. of the explosion which grew into a brush fire that was later extinguished by firefighters. Multiple units responded to the scene.

Cooper said there was one man in the camper at the time of the explosion. He was airlifted by helicopter to a Richmond-area trauma center. There were no other injuries to civilians or fire safety personnel.

Cooper said he’s yet to receive an update on the man’s condition but said an incident of that magnitude is very concerning.

“Understanding what occurred there, I would say that they are probably life-threatening injuries,” Cooper said.
