Despite the rain that forced cancellation of this year’s luminaria at Fredericksburg National Cemetery, American flags were still flying across the historic grounds over the Memorial Day weekend.

Several ceremonies and programs are scheduled around the area today to honor those who died in military service.

The National Park Service will hold a brief program at 10 a.m. at the gate of Fredericksburg National Cemetery, followed by walking tours of Sunken Road at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The Ladies Memorial Association of Fredericksburg will hold its annual observance at 10 a.m. at the Confederate Cemetery on Washington Avenue.

At 11 a.m., the Fredericksburg Area Veterans Council will host its Memorial Day ceremony at the Our Fallen Heroes Memorial on George Street.

There will be a wreath laying and program at the Hugh Mercer Monument on Washington Avenue at 1 p.m.
