The streets of downtown Fredericksburg will become a runway as Fredericksburg Fashion Week International launches its inaugural block party June 6.
Fredericksburg Fashion Week International is a collaborative partnership of independent fashion designers, boutiques, producers, models, and beauty professionals dedicated to celebrating creativity, culture, and style. FFWI President Latoya White is back for her 12th season, adding a party in Market Square to her ninth official show.
The high-energy showcase is designed to captivate fashion enthusiasts while giving curious newcomers a firsthand look at the pulse of the fashion industry. Guests are invited for a day of fashion, entertainment, and unity.
The party hosts are two podcasters: Julio Carter of The Julio Fam Cast, and Mona Brown of The Dope Dichotomy Podcast. Both work to amplify local voices and showcase the creativity that makes the region unique.
Fredericksburg Vice Mayor Chuck Frye will be a guest speaker and live entertainment will be provided by Shakara Monique, Philip Alexander, I Am H3M, and Flo. The Rev. Dr. Angie Lewis will open the party with a prayer for the community. Food and vendors will also be on-site.
J. Cutes Designs, LUX, Winn-Winn Lyfestyle, Survival Rules, Sayless Apparel, and Fedele Nero Collection will showcase their latest designs.
Model Jarelle Myers said he has enjoyed being part of Fredericksburg Fashion Week International.
“I’ve been doing this for three years and I’m loving it. Creativity is being expressed, and many talents can be seen and embraced. I enjoy bringing fashion designs to life,” Myers said.
FFWI was established to elevate the region’s presence in fashion design, clothing merchandising, modeling, entertainment, and dance. Its mission is to inspire community engagement while promoting diversity, innovation, and a greater appreciation for fashion and the arts throughout the region.
Natasha Johnson stepped behind the scenes of the show after working the runway for five seasons.
“I like the way Latoya does business. I’ve been helping with the logistics of the event, while working with our volunteers,” she said.
Johnson said Fredericksburg Fashion Week International is helping bridge the gap in local fashion. “Most people think of New York, Los Angeles, and other major cities when it comes to fashion, but this platform provides exposure and inspiration for aspiring designers and models in the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area.”
White will recognize and present awards to the top designer, makeup artist, and model. She will also honor a rising fashion star, while one standout individual will walk away with the Community Vibe Curator Award.
For White, it’s all about bringing people together, creating spaces for families, and positioning businesses in close proximity to network with one another.
“Fashion is community, and it’s a part of Fredericksburg’s culture. Confidence is built through fashion, and it influences different lifestyles,” she said.
This year’s sponsors include Rappahannock Goodwill, the Fredericksburg Economic Development Authority, and the Fredericksburg Nationals. The free event runs 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the space behind the Fredericksburg Area Museum and is open to the public.
