The school board will receive applications through Thursday, May 19, 2016. Applicants must meet the following requirements for the position:
1 – Be a registered voter and a bona fide resident of the Griffis-Widewater District at the time of the appointment.
2 – Persons listed in Virginia Code Section 22.1-30 are not eligible for interim appointment (e.g., county officer, deputy officer, employee of the school board, listed relative of board member, etc.).
Qualified applicants should submit the following four documents:
1 – Letter of Interest
2 – Resume
3 – Application
4 – Certificate of Candidate Qualification.

All applications must be received by close of business (4:30 p.m.) Thursday, May 19, 2016. Incomplete packets or applications received after this deadline will not be considered.
The school board will hold a special called meeting on May 24, to discuss the applicants and determine which candidates to interview. This meeting is not open to the public.
The school board will hold public interviews of the selected candidates on May 31, in the Executive Session Room. If further interviews are necessary, they will be held on June 7. The appointment will be made on or before June 14.
All submissions are subject to the rules and regulations of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and may be provided to the public or media, if requested.
Pursuant to Title 24.2, Section 228, of The Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended, the School Board may appoint a qualified voter of the election district in which the vacancy occurred to fill the position within 45 days of the vacancy. After 45 days, the judges of the circuit court of the county may make the appointment. In the past, the School Board has decided to appoint a member within the 45 day statutory window. Most recently, in 2012, the School Board filled two vacancies for School Board Member seats necessitated by resignation of School Board members.
