From Germanna Community College
A crowd of 200 packed Thursday night’s opening of photojournalist Fred Watkins’ exhibition at Germanna Community College’s Fredericksburg Campus.
“This man is a national treasure,” syndicated radio host Joe Madison told those in attendance. Madison said icons like Muhammad Ali and Michael Jackson and leaders like Barack Obama specifically asked that Watkins photograph them.
“This exhibit should go national,” Madison said.
The exhibition, “A Photographic Walk Through History,” will be on display at Germanna’s Science & Engineering Building through June 15.
Watkins, a Connecticut native who lives near Spotsylvania Courthouse, has worked with and gotten to know world leaders from Nelson Mandela to Donald Trump.
He’s traveled with five presidents on Air Force One, from Ronald Reagan to Barack Obama, and has photographed many celebrities.
His work has appeared in Life, Time and People magazines, along with many other publications.
The show is a Germanna Presents! Lyceum series event.
