Northern Neck Electric Cooperative: Be Prepared

by | Aug 3, 2020 | Weather

From Northern Neck Electric Cooperative:

Northern Neck Electric Cooperative (NNEC) wants to remind its members to be prepared in case of a power outage from Tropical Storm Isaias. Heavy rain and strong winds are expected across the area on Tuesday which may result in downed trees and power lines.

Make sure you have flashlights or battery-powered lanterns and a battery-operated radio. Remember to charge up all cell phones before the storm and have contact information for family members and any elderly neighbors. Keep plenty of medicine, first-aid supplies, and batteries on hand. Stock up on bottled water and non-perishable foods, such as canned foods, and have a manual can-opener. It’s a good idea to have an alternate location to stay if you or someone in your household has special needs during an extended outage. Prepare an emergency kit with sanitation items, and draw water to store for personal use, such as in jugs, big pans, or the bathtub. If you plan to use a portable generator, make sure it is connected according to local safety codes and CANNOT back feed power onto the power lines!

NNEC reminds everyone to stay away from any downed power line, tree on the line, or anything touching a line. Notify NNEC of any downed power lines, trees on the line, or a power outage, by calling 1-866-663-2688.

NNEC is the member-owned cooperative serving over 19,000 homes and businesses in Lancaster, Northumberland, Richmond, Westmoreland, King George and Stafford Counties. Visit www.nnec.coop for more information about NNEC.
