On behalf of theĀ Grand Lodge of Virginia, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, Fredericksburg Lodge No. 4 cordially invites the community to attend aĀ wreath laying ceremonyĀ honoringĀ General George Weedon, Revolutionary War patriot, Fredericksburg civic leader and Virginia Freemason.
The ceremony will be heldĀ Saturday,Ā January 10th, atĀ 2Ā oāclockĀ p.m., at theĀ FredericksburgĀ MasonicĀ Cemetery at Charles and George Sts, where General Weedon rests among many civic leaders and patriots of the American Revolution. The Grand Master of Masons in Virginia, M.W. Matthew Todd Szramoski, will lay a wreath as part of his Foundersā Footsteps Commemoration Tour, recognizing the service of Virginia Freemasons to the cause of American Independence. AĀ reception will followĀ at Fredericksburg Lodge No. 4,Ā 803 Princess Anne Street. The historic 1816 building will also be open for tours.
General Weedon began his career as a Lieutenant under George Washington in the French and Indian War. His tavern on Caroline Street was a known meeting spot for patriots. During the Revolutionary War, he assumed command of the 3rd Virginia Regiment following General Hugh Mercerās death at the Battle of Princeton, and at Yorktown, his troops blocked Cornwallisā escape route. He was elected Worshipful Master of Fredericksburg Lodge No. 4 in 1783. His life stands as a testament to civic virtue and industry.
