Members of the Fredericksburg Roller Derby league kicked off their 3rd annual toy drive in support of the Quantico Toys for Tots Campaign on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 10 a.m. at the Ollie’s store, a national sponsor of Toys for Tots, located at 10730 Patriot Highway, Fredericksburg VA 22408. They were shopping with Quantico Marines, buying toys for children ages 11-14 and Infants-2 yr. olds. There is historically a shortage of toys for those age groups.
Fredericksburg Roller Derby will continue their toy drive with a tournament featuring toy-themed teams fielded by skaters and officials from up to 15 different regional leagues. The Toy Box Scramble Tournament will be held at the Fredericksburg Convention Center on Saturday, Nov, 2, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community in which the campaign is conducted. More information on the local campaign can be found at quantico-va.toysfortots.org.
The Fredericksburg Roller Derby is a non-profit organization that strives to give back to the community while growing a family of skaters, officials, volunteers and fans who love camaraderie, teamwork and competition, For more information on Fredericksburg Roller Derby and the Toy Box Scramble, please visit fredericksburgrollerderby.com or send an email to [email protected].
