Friday the 13th, Flag Day and Father’s Day are rolled into one weekend this year, which by my estimation means great luck for lots of fun.
After a damp Friday — the National Weather Service said there is a 50 to 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms — Saturday and Sunday are predicted to be beautiful. Sunny days with highs in the mid-80s will transition to moonlit nights in the low 60s.

“The Color of Leaves,” an exhibition of new works by Fredericksburg-area artist Helen Butler, is the featured show at Art First Gallery July 1 – 27, 2014.
Butler, a 20-year member of Art First, considers herself a colorist. “I’m interested in creating the basic form of a piece of art with color, texture and composition,” Butler said.

Fredericksburg will host its annual Heritage Festival on Friday, July 4, 2014. The 600, 700 and 800 blocks of Sophia Street, the 100 block of Charlotte Street and the 100 block of Hanover Street will be closed to all traffic from 5 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Following is the schedule of activities.
Cinema on the Circle returns for a second year, with free movies for the community on Ball Circle at the University of Mary Washington. The films begin outdoors at dark on three consecutive Mondays in July.

• July 21 – Back to the Future
• July 28 – The Wizard of Oz
Guests are invited to come early with a picnic and lawn chairs. There will be free popcorn and snow cones. Alcohol is not permitted.
The 2014 Red Hot & Blues Festival will be held July 26 at the Anne Marie Sheridan Amphitheater, 17044 Adventure Bound Trail, Rixeyville, Va.

Fredericksburg’s fourth annual Summer Restaurant Week will kick-off with a new event for 2014. Thirteen independently owned downtown restaurants will compete in the FXBG Sandwich Invitational from 6 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 31.

The 276th Fredericksburg Agricultural Fair will be held Friday, July 25, through Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014 at the Fredericksburg Fairgrounds, 2400 Airport Ave.
Hours are 5 –10 p.m. Monday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 10 p.m. Sundays.
Admission is $8 for ages 4 – 54 and $6 for those 55 and older. Children 3 and younger are admitted free. July 29 is Three for Tuesday — admission is $3.
