Spotsylvania County Little League Opening Day

Bill Bray, retired MLB left-handed relief pitcher with the 
Cincinnati Reds and the Washington Nationals will be the keynote speaker at Spotsylvania County Little League Opening Day, Saturday, April 12, 2014.
The day’s festivities will be held at Patriot Park, 5710 Smith Station Rd., in Fredericksburg.  The festivities begin at 8:45 a.m.
Players will need to arrive earlier, and should check with their coaches about when and where to meet.

Tim Young, Stephanie Fulmer Fastest in Historic 13.1

Tim Young of Fredericksburg and Stephanie Fulmer of Arlington were the fastest men and women’s runners in the Marine Corps Historic Half on May 18, according to the unofficial results posted Sunday afternoon.
The 27-year-old Young ran a 4:58 mile pace to finish the 13.1 miles in 1:05:09.
Fulmer, 24, ran a 6:30 mile pace to finish in 1:25:18.

Spotsylvania Little League Umpire-in-Chief Honored

Spotsylvania County Little League (SCLL) Umpire-in-Chief Brian Wolfe has had a summer of honors.
Just prior to the Little League Southeast Regional Championship game August 9 in Warner Robbins, Ga., Wolfe was presented the Southeastern Region Golden Mask Award for outstanding work as an umpire and volunteer.  He was also chosen to throw the first pitch for the championship game.

Diamond Nation Asks City for $18 Million More Towards Stadium

Diamond Nation is asking the City of Fredericksburg to contribute $18 million more towards building a stadium complex to host the Hagerstown Suns and provide space for amateur baseball and softball camps and tournaments.
The total cost of the project originally had been estimated at about $25 – $30 million.
City Manager Bev Cameron made the announcement in an update to City Council during their August 12 meeting.

City Considers Real Estate Tax Exemption for Diamond Nation Stadium Complex

Diamond Nation has requested a permanent real estate tax exemption from the City of Fredericksburg in exchange for a revenue share “in perpetuity” and the city’s investment of up to $26 million to build a baseball stadium and sports complex in Celebrate Virginia South.
The new terms came in a letter to City Council on August 21 from Diamond Nation owner Jack Cust.
