The National Weather Service says heavy rain likely at times today

The State Corporation Commission’s Bureau of Insurance reminds Virginians to assess their risk, review their insurance coverage and know what to do before and after a hurricane or other disaster strikes.

The National Weather Service says a storm system will bring clouds and rain to the region today and tonight, along with cooler temperatures. The heaviest rain is expected to fall to the west where there is also flood watch in effect.

Forecasters say worst of the weather should begin to move out of the region by early afternoon

REC says the brunt of the storm is expected to arrive overnight and continue through Tuesday afternoon, dropping 3 to 5 inches of rain and bringing wind gusts of 40-plus mph in some areas.

A Tropical Storm Warning is now in effect for much of central and southern MD, DC, as well as portions of northeastern VA along the I-95 corridor. Flooding rain, wind damage, and tidal flooding are all threats to the area.
