From Stafford Schools:

Gayle Middle School student Nathan Hall placed in a competition at the National Beta Club’s 24th National Junior Beta Convention.  Hall placed 7th in the Math 8th Grade competition.  He will receive a plaque from the National Beta Club in recognition of his achievement for placing in the top 10 in this competition.

Hall was the only SCPS student to place at the National Junior Beta Convention this year.  He was one of only seven Virginia students to place.

The Club’s Sponsor Jeremy B. Utt, who was also Hall’s 8th-Grade Honors Geometry teacher, said that he is “proud of Nathan for his accomplishments.  He is an exceptional student and a leader.  It was a pleasure to have taught Nathan and to have worked with him in the Junior Beta Club.”

Hall is a charter member of Gayle Middle School’s Junior Beta Club, founded during the 2020-2021 school year, and served as the Club’s first president.  He competed in the Math 8th Grade competition in this year’s virtual Virginia State Convention, receiving the Champion award for placing first in that competition.  The math competition is one of four academic competitions that also includes language arts, science, and social studies. His victory at the state level provided an opportunity to compete at the national level.

The National Convention, held in Orlando, FL, provided all students the opportunity to compete at their comfort level, virtually or on-site. Over 13,000 Junior Beta (grades 4-8) and Senior Beta (grades 9-12) students represented their schools in the first National Beta Hybrid Convention.

With more than 500,000 active members and 9,000 chapters nationally and internationally, National Beta has become the nation’s largest independent, non-profit, educational youth organization. National Beta recognizes outstanding achievement, promotes character and social responsibility, encourages service involvement to school and community, and fosters leadership skills. National Junior Beta includes grades 4-8 and National Senior Beta includes grades 9-12. The National Beta program offers over $300,000 annually to its Senior Beta Members.
