10 Weekend Events Begin the Holidays in Fredericksburg

The holidays begin in Fredericksburg this weekend, with several special events in the area. Here’s a list of 10 weekend opportunities, not all holiday based. Click the red hyperlinks for more information.

First Friday Art Walk
Friday, Nov. 7, 6 – 9 p.m.
Downtown galleries and studios host open houses, which highlight featured artists and include refreshments and often live music.
The First Friday page includes a list of participants, the trolley route and parking options.

Open Late Fridays
Friday, Nov. 7, through 8 p.m.
More than 30 downtown Fredericksburg stores will remain open until at least 8 p.m. every Friday beginning November 7 and continuing through December 19, 2014. Look for the yellow “Open Late” flags displayed by participating merchants.

Hugh Mercer Apothecary Open House
Friday, Nov. 7, 5 – 8 p.m.
Hugh Mercer Apothecary, 1020 Caroline St.
The admission fee is waived as part of Open Late Fridays.

La Ceiba Silent Auction at Wilderness Run Vineyard
Friday, Nov. 7, 7 p.m.
Wilderness Run Vineyard, 11109 Plank Rd, Spotsylvania
$10 per person, at the door.
Silent auction items include dinners, art and more. Proceeds benefit La Ceiba, the student-run, micro-finance program helping the low-income people in Honduras start businesses.

Fourth Annual Patawomeck Indian Tribe Arts & Crafts Show and Sale
Saturday, Nov. 8, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Homemade and handcrafted items and lunch for sale.

Santa’s Arrival at Spotsylvania Towne Center
Saturday, Nov. 8, 10 a.m.
The Village at Spotsylvania Towne Center, 137 Spotsylvania Mall Dr., Fredericksburg.

Holiday Open House
Saturday, Nov. 8, and Sunday, Nov. 9, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Downtown Fredericksburg shopping district.
This annual tradition features shopping specials, lights, music, decorations and, of course, Santa. It will also be the launch of “Experience Fredericksburg,” the holiday gift card program, Window Wonderland and Selfie Elfie.

Gingerbread House Workshops at Ferry Farm
Saturday, Nov. 8, first session at 10:30 a.m., second session at 1:30 p.m.
George Washington’s Ferry Farm, 268 Kings Hwy., Fredericksburg
Learn the secrets of building a real gingerbread house. Ages 7 and up (children must be accompanied by an adult).
$10 per person for each session (includes all materials). Please call 540-370-0732 x24 for reservations. Space is limited.

Concert in Lights Kickoff
Saturday, Nov. 8, free festivities begin at 4 p.m., the light show is at 6:30 p.m.
The Village at Spotsylvania Towne Center, 137 Spotsylvania Mall Dr., Fredericksburg.
Concert in Lights runs November 8 – December 24, 2014, at 6:30, 7:30, 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. Christmas Eve Finale at 5:30 p.m.

Autumn Leaves Hike
Sunday, Nov. 9, 3 – 4:15 p.m.
Motts Run Nature Center, 6600 River Rd., Fredericksburg
Learn about trees and seeds as we soak up the sounds and smells of the season. Dress warmly and wear sturdy shoes.
