Downtown Fredericksburg streets and shops were busy for the annual Holiday Open House weekend November 8 and 9. It was the kick-off for Holidays in Historic Fredericksburg, a season of special events planned for downtown by various entities, including the Fredericksburg Main Street Initiative (FMSI).

Open Late Fridays
A majority of downtown businesses are participating in Open Late Fridays, a new initiative spearheaded by FMSI. Businesses displaying the yellow “Open Late” flag will be open until at least 8 p.m. every Friday from November 7 through December 19.
Historic Friday Evenings
These historic properties are offering free admission, alternating on three Fridays.
November 28: The James Monroe Museum, 908 Charles St., will be open until 8 p.m., with music and light refreshments.
December 5: The Rising Sun Tavern, 1304 Caroline St., is hosting a holiday open house from 6 – 8:30 p.m., with music and treats.
December 12: The Fredericksburg Area Museum and Cultural Center, 1001 Princess Anne St., will open its McKann Building and museum store from 5 – 8 p.m.
Saturday, Nov. 22
Maranatha 2nd Generation will carol along Caroline Street beginning at 2 p.m.
Small Business Saturday, November 29
The Fredericksburg Visitor Center, 706 Caroline St., will serve free coffee and pastries beginning at 8 a.m. — until they run out. Businesses with a red carpet will participate in Small Business Saturday, opening at 8 a.m. with shopping incentives.
George Washington’s Young Friends will be strolling downtown from 12 – 3 p.m.
The children’s tree lighting at Hurkamp Park, Prince Edward and George Streets, begins at 4:30 p.m. with free snacks, crafts and music. Santa arrives at 4:45 p.m. The Patriot Singers from Hugh Mercer Elementary School will perform.
Saturday, December 6
George Washington’s Young Friends and Santa will be strolling downtown from 12 – 3 p.m.
The Fredericksburg Community Chorus presents Handel’s Messiah at 2 p..m. at Fredericksburg Baptist Church, 1019 Princess Anne St.
The James Monroe Museum, 908 Charles St., will host “A Monroe Christmas” open house from 3 – 5:30 p.m. The free event includes music and refreshemnts.

Sunday, December 7
Santa will be strolling downtown from 1 to 4 p.m., joined by the Civil War Civilians from 1 to 3 p.m.
Mary Washington House, 1200 Charles St., hosts its annual open house and candlelight tour from 4:30 to 7 p.m.
The Fredericksburg Community Chorus presents Handel’s Messiah at 7 p..m. at Fredericksburg Baptist Church, 1019 Princess Anne St.
Saturday, December 13
LibertyTown Arts Workshop, 916 Liberty St., is hosting a holiday open house with gifts from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
The Chamber Chorale of Fredericksburg will perform at 7:30 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church Old Site, 801 Sophia St.
The Historic Fredericksburg Foundation hosts their 44th Annual Candlelight Tour. Details are available on the group’s website.
Sunday, December 14
Santa will make his way through downtown from 1 to 4 p.m.
