Heart of Virginia Bike Festival

Richmond Area Bicycling Association’s (RABA) 2015 Heart of Virginia Bike Festival presents 101 mile, 64 mile, 34 mile and 11 mile rides. Enjoy rest stops, lunch by Everyday Gourmet and entertainment.
Online registration through September 10 is $55. Onsite registration is $65.
Tour de Fall Line
Saturday, Sept. 12, beginning at 8 a.m.
A tour of the James River Basin by bike or boat, with 14, 28, and 50 mile mountain bike courses throughout Richmond and a ten-mile rafting trip on the James River.

Vintage Route 1 Tour and Community Day

Historic Fredericksburg Foundation presents a day of activities celebrating Fredericksburg’s 20th-century history. Events include walking tours of the upper Princess Anne Street neighborhood, a
classic car display, history exhibits, vintage clothing display and activities for kids.

Heritage Harvest Festival at Monticello

The Heritage Harvest Festival at Monticello celebrates the legacy of revolutionary gardener Thomas Jefferson, America’s “first foodie,” with more than 100 educational programs, hands-on workshops, garden tours, a bounty of heirloom fruit and vegetable tastings, lessons on seed saving and gardening, an organic, local food marketplace, kids’ activities and more on the West Lawn of Monticello.

8th Annual Yankees in Falmouth

Stafford County’s annual commemoration of the 1862 arrival of the Union Army to Falmouth. Militia camp, living history displays, sharp shooters and more.

UMW Eagle Nation Day

The free, family-fun event is held at UMW’s Battleground Athletic Complex off Hanover Street. This year’s theme is “Healthy Habits, Happy Kids.”
“The carnival like atmosphere is designed to be a place where local children can meet and play games with college athletes while enjoying many other exciting activities, including giant inflatables, arts and crafts, play spaces, and more.

Saving Mary’s House 125th Anniversary Celebration
Saturday, Sept. 12, 7 – 10 p.m.
Mary Washington’s House, 1200 Charles St., Fredericksburg, Va.
A celebration featuring casino games, garden and house tours, live music, heavy hors d’oeuvres and an open bar.
Admission is $75 per person, of which $25 is tax deductible. Proceeds benefit Mary Washington House.
“Crimes Against Nature” One-Man Show
Saturday, Sept. 12, 7 p.m.
University of Mary Washington’s Dodd Auditorium, 1301 College Ave., Fredericksburg.
UMW Professor of Psychology Dr. Chris Kilmartin is bringing his one-man show back to the stage as a fundraiser for the Grace Mann Fund. “Crimes Against Nature” “hilariously breaks down gender stereotypes and tackles the absurdities and contradictions of growing male in America.” Kilmartin, who was once a professional stand-up comedian, said he wrote “Crimes Against Nature” as an integration of his scholarly and performing interests.
The event is free, with a suggested donation towards the Grace Mann Fund of $5 for students, $10 for non-students.
Seurat Sunday at Caledon State Park

Annual event for plein air artists, photographers, and nature-lovers of all ages to come out and paint, draw, photograph, relax and have fun on the beautiful grounds of Caledon State Park. The first “Seurat Sunday” was held in 1980 at the Fredericksburg Center for the Creative Arts (FCCA) and was named after a painting, Sunday Afternoon on the Isle of Grande-Jatte by Georges Seurat, French Impressionist (1859-1891).
