The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will hold a June 24, 2015, public hearing on the proposed Rappahannock River Crossing project on Interstate 95. The crossing would add collector-distributor lanes parallel to the general purpose lanes of I-95 between Route 17 in Stafford and Route 3 in Fredericksburg.
The open house format public hearing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at James Monroe High School, 2300 Washington Ave., Fredericksburg. No formal presentation will be given. (VDOT) staff will be available to present study results, answer questions and accept comments on results from the federally-required Environmental Assessment (EA). Before this project could advance to construction, a design public hearing would be held at a future date, VDOT said.
The goal of the Rappahannock River Crossing is to improve I-95 congestion by providing local traffic with an additional route to travel between Route 17 and Route 3. The existing I-95 interchanges at Route 17 and Route 3 would also be modified.
The Rappahannock River Crossing project does not include the Rappahannock Parkway, which is a separate project.
For anyone unable to attend, comments may also be submitted through the close of business on Thursday, July 9, 2015.
