Interstate 95 and most primary and high volume secondary routes throughout the 14-county Fredericksburg District are clear, but refreezing overnight created some slick spots especially on bridges, ramps and overpasses. Motorists should avoid early morning travel if possible.
On Monday, Jan. 25, 2016, crews will focus on removing high piles of snow from the shoulders, medians and intersections that may limit sight distance, treating commuter lots, and plowing in subdivisions.
Subdivision plowing will consist of an initial pass that will provide motorists a way to reach the main roads. In most cases, the road will remain snow and ice covered. In many neighborhoods, additional equipment will be needed to remove the packed snow and ice.
Residents are asked to be patient as VDOT works to make all roads passable.
What Residents Should Know
· If possible, please park in a driveway, and do not park in intersections. This will assist plow drivers as they seek to remove as much snow as possible.
· If residents have a serious emergency (i.e. medical or fire), they should call 9-1-1. VDOT works in coordination with emergency responders to get them the help they need.
VDOT crews will continue 24-hour operations until all roads are safe for travel.
