A new downtown public parking lot is now open. Located between Charles and Prince Edward streets near Amelia Street, the lot adds 29 public parking spaces to the downtown inventory, and another 17 on nights and weekends.

“Landscaping is planned this fall, and other improvements including trash cans, a fence and bike racks are coming soon,” said Bill Freehling, assistant director for Economic Development.

Additional free public parking is available on nights and weekends at the Virginia Partners Bank lot at 410 William St., and in the lot off Charles Street next to Artful Dimensions Gallery, which is at 911 Charles St.

Parking in these lots is free.
