The Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, approved the latest Six-Year Improvement Program (SYIP), which allocated $625.5 million for 120 transportation projects in the Fredericksburg District, $14.4 billion statewide, according to Tamara Rollison of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

Projects, including highway, road, bridge, rail, transit, and bicycle/pedestrian paths, will be funded over the next six fiscal years beginning July 1, 2016.

For the first time the SYIP includes projects that were scored and approved for full funding under the state’s new data-driven prioritization process. Formerly called House Bill 2 or HB2, the program is now called “SMART SCALE, Funding the Right Transportation Projects in Virginia.” SMART SCALE stands for System for the Management and Allocation of Resources for Transportation.
