Josh Hardy has been fighting cancer for most of his short life. The first grader at Fredericskburg’s Hugh Mercer Elementary School was cancer free for two years, but following a recent bone marrow transplant, Josh developed an infection. He is in the intensive care unit of St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
There is a drug that could possibly help Josh, but pharmaceutical company Chimerix said their drug — Brincidofovir — is still in trial and not available to the general public. The drug has helped two other children using it in a clinical trial.
“Chimerix has dug their heels in to their ‘no’ position,” Josh’s mother Aimee wrote on Josh’s Caring Bridge webpage.
Josh’s story is now receiving national attention. The family will be featured on CNN Sunday at 7 p.m. and on Fox & Friends at 8:20 a.m. Monday, March 10, according to his mom.
