Around the region: Fighting cabin fever

There are many interesting things to do here, and in places within a couple of hours of here. Come on this journey with me to explore this area, and places near to this area.

If you’ve ever felt like there’s nothing to do around this area, the recent up and down weather certainly hasn’t helped very much. For a while, it seemed like the weather was much more down than up, and it had most people searching for anything that could get them and their family out of the house for a change of pace/scenery. Although you’ve likely kicked that level of cabin fever, the evenings are still cold, and the Sun is still setting rather early. AccuWeather forecasts this will continue for about the next week or so. This may still have you searching for fun ideas and activities that will get you active, and keep everyone in your home entertained.

If you feel like your kids are bouncing off the walls at home, you may be interested in taking them to the Sky Zone (1410 Central Park Blvd.), so they can jump out all that energy. If you haven’t heard about Sky Zone, it is a trampoline park. They have trampolines that cover the the floor and the walls within their space. This is the place where your kids can literally bounce off the walls, and it is completely welcome! Also, the feeling of fun that comes with jumping on a trampoline will be sure to put your crew into happy moods, and hopefully you’ll get the credit.

If you’ve been feeling like you may want to climb the walls, or thought your family may begin to if you couldn’t find the right activity to keep them busy, you may want to check out the rock climbing parks called, Peek Experiences in the Richmond area. There are two locations, one in Richmond, one in Midlothian. You’ll want to plan ahead for this trip, because they have set days and times for walk-ins. But this is a great way to be active, challenge yourself, and spend some energy.

If you would like to focus on a way to get out of the house that doesn’t pack quite the same adrenaline rush as a room made of springy objects, or climbing walls you may be interested in an old classic. Bowling is a great family activity, and luckily enough, we have two bowling alleys in Fredericksburg. There’s an AMF on Rt3 at 12100 Kilarney Drive, and there’s Splittsville behind Spotsylvania Towne Center.
