The Spotsylvania Visitors Center has become the third visitors center in the state to sell unopened, locally-produced wines in its gift shop. The move is an effort to support local wineries and provide a convenience to guests and local residents.
The Visitors Center will carry a small selection of wines from Spotsylvania wineries, including Eden Try Estate Winery, Lake Anna Winery, Mattaponi Winery, Wilderness Run Vineyards and Bacchus Winery. Prices range from $18 to $36 per bottle and are the same prices available at the wineries.
The Spotsylvania Visitors Center underwent a state application, review and licensing process in order to obtain the Alcohol Beverage Control license, which also covers the sale of unopened beer on the premises. That option may be available in the future on a limited basis.
Wine accessories will also be available, such as glasses, wine charms, cheese boards, Virginia peanuts, local jams, honeys and wine stoppers.
The Spotsylvania County Visitors Center is located at 4704 Southpoint Parkway and is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It houses the Spotsylvania Tourism Department and offers information on local attractions, souvenirs, Virginia is for Lovers merchandise, local and state maps, as well as historical information.
The visitors centers located in Halifax County and the city of Winchester are the only two other localities licensed by the state to sell wine and beer.
