From Prince William Fire and Rescue:

The recent cold snap may have many people thinking about exploring the ice on area ponds and other bodies of water. This could lead to tragedy. Our local ice is dangerous at any time. The Prince William County Fire and Rescue System urges everyone to stay off the ice. Small children and pets should always be supervised near any body of water.
Saturday night a young adult male lost his life when he and 2 others broke through the ice on a neighborhood pond in the Haymarket area. Fire and rescue crews arrived and rescued two adults males from the icy water. One of the two rescued would eventually be the victim.
Spread the word. Stay off the ice. The ice in our area is not safe for outdoor activities. The warming temperatures in the days ahead will only make the ice more dangerous.
Spread the word – Stay Off the Ice!
