Spotsy fire trainees hard at work

by | Jul 9, 2023 | Police and Fire

This group of Spotsylvania Volunteer Fire Department recruits were out in the 90 degree weather with full gear, working in a burning building practicing saving trapped victims. “Why?” you might ask. They are preparing for their big test in a few weeks after being in training for about six months. They will become our next group of released firefighters to serve the citizens of Spotsylvania County and will trade their red shirts for blue shirts.
Standing right beside them in this heat was a dedicated group of SVFD volunteers and Spotsylvania FREM Firefighters and SVRS EMT’s helping to guide them and teach them. House fires do not care about the weather, and they have to train in all types of conditions.
Best of luck to all of them in the next few weeks. You’re almost there!
Special thanks to SVFD Co 1 Auxiliary for serving lunch and ensuring they had plenty of water.
