Dog rescued from storm drain in Prince William

by | Sep 21, 2023 | Police and Fire

On Tuesday in Prince William County,  Station 504 was dispatched for an animal that fell down a storm drain. Truck 504, Engine 504, and Medic 504 were initially placed on the call; however, while en route the 9-1-1 Call Center (PSCC) advised the pet owner was committing into the drain to retrieve the dog. With this information, Truck 504 Officer asked to upgrade the dispatch compliment to a confine space dispatch and several more units were placed onto the call.
Upon arrival of Company 4 units, they were met by the dog owner and advised Battalion 501 the dog owner did not commit into the storm drain. Fire and Rescue then downgrade the responding units and retain personnel to Company 4 and Rescue 522. The crews removed the man-cover overtop the storm drain, located the dog from above, obtained air quality readings inside the drain and readied one  firefighter to make entry.  Within one minute, the dog was being passed out of the storm drain. Mom, pictured in the center, was overwhelmed with happiness and extremely thankful for her local firefighters rescuing her bundle of joy.
