Caroline County Public Schools Superintendent Sarah Calveric recently served as the commencement speaker for graduates of the University of Richmond’s School of Professional and Continuing Studies (SPCS).
Calveric, an adjunct associate professor in the SPCS Educational and Leadership and Policy Studies program, delivered the keynote address at the May 10 ceremony. Prior to the commencement she was presented with the Itzkowitz Family Distinguished Adjunct Faculty Award, which was established in 1977 and endowed in 2006.
The award recognizes an adjunct faculty member who pushes students to grow as thinkers, leaders and learners. Calveric, who has served at SPCS for a decade, also received the SPCS Innovations in Teaching award eight years ago.
Calveric’s tenure as superintendent in Caroline began in 2018. She was named Virginia’s 2023 Region III Superintendent of the Year and worked collaboratively with the county’s school board in being named Board of the Year, Board of Distinction, and Master Board.
She also serves on multiple statewide and national advisory boards and is active in regional workforce development.
Calveric closed her commencement remarks with a call to action for graduates to “use your brain, have heart, and be courageous.”
