Spotsylvania County middle school CTE teachers feted at the state level

The Spotsylvania County School Board recognized on Monday night two Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers who were recently honored at the state level.

Christine Culberson, a CTE teacher at Battlefield Middle School, was named Teacher of the Year by the Virginia Technology & Engineering Educators Association.

“Ms. Culberson’s unwavering passion for Career and Technical Education has significantly enriched the learning experience for students across Spotsylvania County Public Schools,” a statement from the division read. “Her creative instructional approaches, dedication to lifelong learning, and influential role within the Virginia Technology and Engineering Education Association reflect a deep commitment to excellence in education. This well-deserved recognition celebrates Ms. Culberson’s tireless efforts to inspire, lead, and elevate the CTE community.”

Also, Edie Brooks, a business and information technology CTE instructor at Post Oak Middle School, was named teacher of the year by the Virginia Business Educators Association. School officials said in a statement that Brooks “has exemplified outstanding dedication to Career and Technical Education in Spotsylvania County Public Schools.”

“Through her innovative teaching strategies, unwavering commitment to student success, and active pursuit of professional growth, she has made a lasting impact on both her students and colleagues,” the release stated. “Her leadership within the Virginia Business Educators Association further highlights her influence in the field. In recognition of these exceptional contributions, Ms. Brooks has been honored with this prestigious award.”

School Board Chair Megan Jackson and Superintendent Clint Mitchell honored Brooks and Culberson Monday night. Mitchell also visited Brooks at Post Oak Middle School Tuesday as he began a tour of all 31 school sites in the county this week.

“We continue to be proud of the amazing teachers that we have in our district and the amazing things that they’re doing for our students,” Mitchell said. “It’s an honor to see them recognized across the state of Virginia.”
