The school board will hold a public hearing on Superintendent Marci Catlett’s proposed FY 2027 budget. The operating budget, which totals $68.4 million, includes a 7% pay increase for teachers and the equivalent of 15 full-time positions. They’re slated to vote on the budget later in Monday’s meeting… FCPS Chief Information Officer Mike George will present an update on how the school division is monitoring students’ internet access, the nature of which has been criticized by parents in recent months.

The board of supervisors is set to adopt a resolution declaring its opposition to House Bill 1377, which would create a task force to determine whether Virginia Military Institute (VMI) should be fundamentally changed, continue to be a state-sponsored institution of higher education in Virginia, or be consolidated into other Virginia institutions.

Spotsylvania County

County staff is recommending denial of Apparel and Design, LLC’s request to rezone 2.7 acres from Resort Agriculture to Resort Commercial for the development of a wholesale trade establishment and office. The property (at or near 5341 Courthouse Road) is located on the east side of Courthouse Road, south of Ryland Payne Road. Staff would recommend approval if the applicant mitigates potential use impacts and addresses the project’s inconsistency with the the county’s Thoroughfare Plan and future road improvements to Courthouse Road.

Board of supervisors meeting, Tuesday, 5 p.m.

The supervisors are in the midst of budget-writing season for the next fiscal year, and they’re scheduled to vote on advertising a real-estate tax rate. Once advertised, the board can lower the rate but not increase it.
