The Fredericksburg Police Department has launched its second annual Youth Academy, offering local teens and young adults a behind-the-scenes look at law enforcement. Sixteen participants, ages 14 to 20, will spend 10 weeks learning about police operations and the city’s Emergency Communications Center.
Chief Brian Layton and Deputy Chief Betsy Mason welcomed the group at Monday night’s kickoff session.
The Fredericksburg Host Lions Club is supporting the program by providing meals each week.
The academy aims to build stronger relationships between youth and local law enforcement while offering insight into public safety careers.
