Dr. Stan Jones, a longtime educator and community leader with more than 35 years of experience in public education, announced last week that he will seek election as a write-in candidate for the Ward 4 seat on the Fredericksburg City School Board in the upcoming election on Nov. 4.
Jones currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of Action in Community Through Service (ACTS) of Prince William County and previously held senior leadership positions in several Virginia school divisions, including Superintendent of Danville Public Schools and Deputy Superintendent of Stafford County Public Schools.
In announcing his candidacy, Jones pointed to “a consistent record of raising student achievement, restoring school accreditation, improving safety, and building trust with families and communities.”
“My decision to pursue a seat as School Board Member has grown out of a lifelong commitment to serving and investing in the most critical future citizens, the children who will lead our community long after my time of service,” he said.
Jones has lived and worked in small cities and towns throughout his career. As a city resident for the past 5 years, he heard more and more community members turning to him with concerns about where the schools were heading.
“For too long, our School Board has struggled with transparency, accountability, and student outcomes,” Jones said. “I am running for School Board because I believe that the greatest room in any organization is the room for improvement! Improvement in accountability, community trust, transparency, and student performance. The mission of Fredericksburg City Public Schools is to educate and inspire each student to achieve their full potential, and I will work every day to ensure that mission is realized.”
Jones stated that his campaign for the school board would focus on three “urgent” priorities: ensuring accountability, building trust through transparency, and guiding policy for the future.
“Restoring trust. Putting students first,” Jones added. “That is my commitment to the families of Fredericksburg.”
As a write-in candidate, Jones is urging Ward 4 residents to participate actively in this critical election.
“No change will happen if we do not step up,” he said. “On November 4, voters have the opportunity to demand a School Board that truly puts students first.”
