Fall color still slow to arrive across Virginia

Fall color progression remained slow this week across Virginia due to continued warm and wet weather, according to the Virginia Department of Forestry’s weekly fall foliage report.

Grayson and Highland counties are showing the most vibrant color, with some higher elevations in Highland already past peak.

Meanwhile, patchy color is beginning to appear across the Valley and Piedmont regions. Yellows from hickory, sugar maple, and birch trees dominate, with pops of red from black gum, red maple, and sourwood.
