The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about highly convincing scam calls in which criminals use voice-spoofing technology to impersonate deputies and even Major M. LaCasse. The scammers claim the victim “missed grand jury” and demand thousands of dollars on the spot. Authorities stress it’s a scam—law enforcement will never ask for money by phone, prepaid card, or wire transfer. Residents should hang up immediately, avoid sharing any personal or financial information, and contact the Sheriff’s Office directly to verify any concerns.
