Three Spotsylvania High School students were killed in a single-vehicle crash in the 5300 block of Lewiston Road Friday night.

According to a release from the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the incident at approximately 11:46 p.m., along with fire and rescue personnel. Upon arrival, deputies located the vehicle that was involved in the crash, along with three occupants, all who were pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit, along with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), responded and initiated an investigation. Preliminary findings indicate that a 2002 Mercedes coupe left the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. Speed appears to be a contributing factor in the crash.

The three victims, ages 18, 17, and 17, were all set to graduate in May. Next of kin and Spotsylvania County Public Schools were notified of the incident.

The crash remains under investigation. The sheriff’s office extended  condolences to the families, friends, and the school community impacted by the incident.
