The Stafford Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help after an abandoned baby was found in the county Tuesday afternoon.
The infant was found in Embrey Mill Park, near the area of Embrey Mill Road and Coriander Lane, the sheriff’s office said, and is safe and receiving care from medical professionals.
“The Stafford Sheriff’s Office is concerned for the well-being of the child’s mother and/or father and wishes to provide care, support and assistance during this time,” the agency said in a Facebook post.
Authorities are asking residents and businesses in the Embrey Mill area to review any available security or doorbell-camera footage from Tuesday between noon and 3:10 p.m. and to immediately contact the county’s emergency dispatch center with any information. The number to call is 540-658-4400.
“Your assistance could help reunite a family and ensure everyone involved receives the support they need,” the Facebook post said.
It was unclear Wednesday afternoon how often babies are abandoned like this in the Fredericksburg area. Investigators didn’t recall any similar incidents happening before in Stafford, sheriff’s office spokesman Jackson Arnold wrote in an email to The Free Press.
