Students from 22 Stafford schools participate in ‘Get Rid of Litter Recycled Art Contest’

A total of 118 art projects by students representing 22 Stafford County public schools were recently submitted in the second annual “Get Rid of Litter Recycled Art Contest.”

The competition was held by the Rappahannock Regional Solid Waste Management Board (R-Board) and the Stafford school division at Colonial Forge High School during the Stafford County Fine Arts Festival on April 12-13.

Student work was evaluated by a panel of three judges April 12, and art festival attendees had the opportunity to participate in selecting a Community Choice Award for each of the four grade levels.

The event showcased the creativity of the students and their commitment to environmental stewardship through art.

Prizes were awarded for first, second and third place in each category, along with the Community Choice winner. The winners were as follows:

Elementary (K-2)

  • 1st Place: Joseph Bogozi
  • 2nd: Rian Amey
  • 3rd: Sawyer Passmore
  • Community Choice: Sawyer Passmore

Elementary (3-5)

  • 1st: Preston Turner
  • 2nd: Makynleigh Hrabala
  • 3rd: Anna Choi
  • Community Choice: Leon Ho

Middle school (6-8)

  • 1st: Esperanza Hinojos
  • 2nd: Charlotte Butrum
  • 3rd: Molly Leasure-Earnhardt
  • Community Choice: Kat Nelson

High school

  • 1st: Aleigha Brown
  • 2nd: Myriana Rodriguez Bonilla
  • 3rd: Alec Costa
  • Community Choice: Aleigha Brown
