Harold Odell Washington

Harold Odell Washington, affectionately known to his family and friends as “Popeye”, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Friday morning, June 12, 2026, at the age of 68. Many family members and friends visited him in the days before to express their love for him.

Born on July 22, 1957 in Spotsylvania County, Va., Harold was the son of Shirley I. (Lewis) Washington and Charles A. Coleman. He received his GED from James Monroe High School in Fredericksburg, Va., and worked at Southland Insulators of Manassas, Va., for over 30 years. Harold was known for his sense of humor, hearty laughter, and simply stating “You can’t fix stupid!” He enjoyed sports, most notably watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys and NASCAR racing.

Harold is survived by his partner of 35 years, Tom Marra; his son, Darrick Washington (Jim Meiers); siblings, Linda Johnson (Melvin Johnson), Alvin Washington, and Joseph Washington (Virginia); and many nieces and nephews that include, Cynthia Ayeh-Kumi (Edwin), Tina Napier, Thomasine Wright, Manuel “Junior” Jackson, and Joseph “Lil Joe” Washington.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and five siblings, Rudolph Washington, Marian A. Collins, Yvonne Collins, Charles Washington, and Thomas Washington.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 19, 2026, at Pilgrim Baptist Church Cemetery, 4189 Pilgrim Church Road, Locust Grove, Va. Attendees are asked to arrive by 10:30 a.m.

Full of humor and a warm smile, Harold will be most remembered for his big heart.
