Stafford honors businesses at annual event

Stafford County’s Economic Development Authority awarded Marine Corps Base Quantico the Centennial Award during the county’s annual business appreciation reception.

Col. Joseph Murray, the base commander at Quantico, was the keynote speaker for the event at Stafford Regional Airport and accepted the award from EDA Chairman Joel Griffin. Murphy highlighted the innovation that is happening at Quantico and the strong relationship the base has with Stafford County. The base has been operational for 100 years.

EDA Treasurer Howard Owen named Greencore Group the county’s business of the year. Greencore produces packaged sandwiches and other foods for convenience stores, grocery stores and other businesses.

Owen gave Riverside Center for the Performing Arts the Cornerstone Award for its 20 years of operation.

Outgoing Virginia House Speaker Bill Howell was also awarded the EDA Stewardship Award by EDA Vice Chairman Don Newlin.
