Help Tree Fredericksburg Plant in April

What could be more rewarding than spending a few hours planting trees?  Come plant trees with Tree Fredericksburg, learn new planting techniques and meet like-minded people in the community.
Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, and Saturday, April 26.
Meet at the corner of Caroline and Germania Streets, directly across from the entrance to Old Mill Park, 2410 Caroline St., Fredericksburg.  We usually finish by 11 a.m., and you can plant even for an hour with us -– every effort helps.

Sandton May Credit Bid on Free Lance-Star Assets, Judge Rules

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Kevin R. Huennekens ruled Tuesday that Sandton Capital Partners may credit bid on all Free Lance-Star assets, except for those on which the creditor does not have a direct lien.  The excepted assets include the publishing company’s FCC radio licenses, radio towers, vehicles, life insurance policies and bank accounts, according to All Access Music Group.

“We were inspired by the efforts of other cities, with their version of the Pharrell Williams song “Happy,” said the group of businesses coordinating the video.
Meet in Market Square, 907 Princess Anne St., at 6 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2014.   “Show up, do your thing and be in the video,” the group said.

City Council Candidate Forum April 9

The Fredericksburg Democratic Committee is holding a City Council Candidate Forum at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, in the community room of the Free Lance-Star.  The event is free and open to the public.
“We have invited all candidates to speak, including those running unopposed, so they may share their vision for the future of Fredericksburg and answer any questions,” said Jason Graham, chairman of the Fredericksburg Democratic Committee.

Restaurant Inspections: Allman’s Bar-B-Q, Quiznos, Pancho Villa Mexican

Rappahannock Area Health District (RAHD) officials conducted restaurant inspections at the following Fredericksburg locations March 21 and 24, 2014.
A “critical violation” is one that “poses a direct or immediate threat to the safety of the food being served.”
“In our experience, it is unrealistic to expect that a complex, full-service food operation can routinely avoid any violations,” officials said on the Virginia Department of Health’s website.
